The streaming platform Discord announced on 12 March 2020 that it will relax limits for its GoLive service from 10 users to 50 users at a time.

The decision was made after the company noticed that many people residing in areas that were severely affected by the COVID19 pandemic were using the platform for information sharing amid lockdowns.

Discord founder and CEO Jason Citron expressed that while the company created the platform for sharing games, they are thrilled that users have found other helpful uses for it as well.

“We’ll maintain the higher user limit as long as it’s critically needed — we hope it makes peoples’ lives just a little easier and a little less stressful day-to-day.”

He also said that the company is expecting a surge in demand due to the limit increase and asked users to be patient should they encounter performance issues.
