Samsung has unveiled its latest foldable Galaxy Z Flip Phone, and is designed to be a full phone with a 6.7-inch OLED display that folds when it’s closed. It is priced at $1,380.00, and was made available in the US and Korea last February 14, 2020 in purple and black variants.
What’s awesome about it, other than the portable size, is that the Flip Phone also includes a 1.1-inch OLED cover display which highlights notifications even when it’s closed- and you can tap on it to get into the apps once opened. Weighing 183 grams, the Galaxy Z Flip has 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.
Its ultra-thin glass on a 6.7-inch display can last for 200,000 folds and is being termed as “Infinity Flex Display”. It also includes Samsung’s proprietary bendable Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). Moreover, it also has a 3-stop hinge that lets you separately use 2 halves of the screen when propped up- just like a laptop, with a dual CAM mechanism to hold it open. Samsung has also developed special fibers to keep dust out, as well as 3 cameras: in front is a 10-megapixel f/2.4 selfie camera, and at the rear is a dual-camera system with a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a regular 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. The rear camera can also shoot Hyperlapse videos or at low light using its night mode.
Lastly, the 6.7-inch display can automatically split into two 4-inch screens dubbed as “flex mode”, a custom UI designed for easy viewing of photos and videos. The Flip Phone also features multi-active window support, so you can drag and drop several apps to display at the top and bottom half of the display.
